2020 Frances Perkins Award Dinner

2020 Frances Perkins Award Dinner

The biennial Frances Perkins Award Dinner honors a Lincoln County Democrat who exemplifies, through their efforts, the continuing legacy of Frances Perkins. Grounded by summers with her grandmother in Newcastle, Perkins, FDR’s Secretary of Labor, was the lead advocate of the New Deal for Social Security, the 40-hour work week, workers’ compensation, and unemployment insurance, as well as for laws regulating child labor. Lincoln County Democrats and Frances Perkins Award recipients strive to maintain these social reforms and extend the same political wisdom toward the problems and concerns of our time.

This year’s honoree is Sheriff Todd B. Brackett

In keeping with the “Stay Healthier at Home” Executive Order and everyone’s shared concerns about COVID-19, this year we will bring friends and special guests together for an evening of fellowship and special entertainment in honoring Sheriff Todd Brackett with the 2020 Frances Perkins Award.

The program will feature a special performance by singer songwriter John Schindler of Boothbay Harbor.

Originally from Saint Louis, John was influenced early on by that town’s rhythm and blues and his Oklahoma mother’s singing. This funky start was drastically tempered by a nine-year stint in a Catholic seminary where silence and Gregorian chant were his daily bread. After leaving the brotherhood, John moved to New England where he’s become a well-known, award-winning singer songwriter, John lives in Boothbay Harbor with his wife, Jane and fat cat, Iko.

Additionally, with each paid reservation, participants will receive a gift card to a local restaurant in lieu of attending an in-person banquet.

Your reservation fee or host committee sponsorship will provide:
