JEFFERSON, Maine, Oct. 11, 2024 (released to the Newspapers combined with the Rally recap on Oct. 27, 2024) –Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives Rachel Talbot Ross addressed the sold-out crowd of 120 guests at the Lincoln County Democratic Committee’s (LCDC) annual Harvest Dinner, Sunday, Oct. 6, at Le Barn event center in Jefferson. The speaker reminded the group there are only 30 days left until “the most important election of our lifetimes, perhaps in the history of the country.”

“Maintaining our Democratic majorities in the state house and senate will not be easy. It will require hard work, dedication, and an unwavering belief in the power of our shared values,” Ross said. “Folks in Lincoln County know this and that’s why they are stepping up to engage with their neighbors, mobilize their communities, and ensure that every vote is earned. Together, we can strengthen our democracy and ensure that on November 5 our voices are heard loud and clear.”

Democratic candidates for Maine House and Senate and the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners were also in attendance, talking with voters and hearing from constituents.

Attendees enjoyed music from Laura Buxbaum and Brian Dunn, of Waldoboro, while feasting on soups, stews, chowders, and pies prepared by 15 volunteer chefs and bakers, and sipping fresh-pressed cider from local orchards.

“LCDC was honored by Speaker Ross’s presence and I am humbled by the support of our members and friends,” said Geoff Bates, the organization’s fundraising leader.. “The funds raised by this event directly impacts our grassroots efforts for the current election.”

“The annual gathering is one of LCDC’s most popular events, bringing together Democrats from across Lincoln County,” observed event organizer Valarie Johnson.

“It’s so gratifying to see, year-after-year, the people of Lincoln County come together during their busy fall season and make time to prepare such a delicious bounty for their friends and neighbors,” Johnson said, “We are deeply appreciative of everyone–whether they helped organize, assisted in the setup, cooked, baked, or attended–who made this year’s Harvest Dinner such a success and recognize that building community is the best way to incur positive change for our county and our state.”

The LCDC uses the money it raises through this and other fundraising initiatives to support its local efforts in Lincoln County. Its grassroots mission is to organize volunteers and communicate with voters in support of candidates who believe in the Democratic ideals and principles of government by, of, and for all the people.
