Family Fun Day Lobster Bake | August 8, 2021

The results are in from Aug. 8th’s 2021 Family Fun Day Lobster Bake, where an exuberant group of nearly 200 friends, neighbors, our Honorary Chair of the Bake, the Hon. Marge Kilkelly, elected representatives — and one very popular Governor — gathered outdoors to share a meal, progressive ideas, and reconnect in-person after a year of forced isolation.

Mother Nature provided a perfect Maine Sunday afternoon — warm with light breezes— and our caterer, Jeff Hurd from The Narrows Tavern, once again donated the use of his site at Cider Hill Farm in Waldoboro, creating a memorable dining experience. The rolling hills and stately oaks provided a perfect backdrop for our even BIGger tent and you all responded generously by opening your wallets and supporting a variety of on-site raffle opportunities while listening to the maritime tunes by The Oystermen, consuming record-breaking numbers of freshly shucked oysters. Oysters were provided by Kayli and Smokey McKeen from Bristol’s The HUB, Farm Market & Osteria, at Pemaquid Oyster Co., and all oyster proceeds were donated directly to LCDC.

Many thanks to everyone who carved out time from an especially busy summer and boosted our attendance over 2019 by 50%. Our host/sponsors answered the call for support at every level, from the Dem Dynamo to True Blue for ’22, Majority Maven to Activist, and helped deliver a 54% increase in our bottom line.

I want to express my appreciation to folks who help specifically with LCDC Fundraising Initiatives, who began planning for the event in January, and to everyone else who stepped up to pitch in and contribute time, talents, and friendly faces to make the day such a success. I know I speak for many in saying it was a joy to see the many friends we’ve missed during the pandemic, and to know that with your continued support, we’ll be ready to meet the challenges that loom as we prepare for the ’22 campaign.
