Lincoln County Dems to Host Panel on Gen Z and Millennial Voters

NEWCASTLE, Maine, April 15, 2024 – The Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) will hold its next meeting Thursday, April 25, with a panel discussion on engaging Gen Z and Millennial voters.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be in a hybrid format. Participants can join in person at the Newcastle Fire Station, 86 River Rd. in Newcastle, or via Zoom.

Panelists include representatives from several youth-led organizations in Maine that work to engage younger voters and future voters.

Groups participating include Maine Students Vote, a network of student and civic leaders across the state who work to increase civic engagement in high schools and on college campuses. This nonpartisan group, affiliated with the League of Women Voters of Maine-affiliated, is focused on being a trusted resource for all Maine communities. Maine Students Vote supports campuses and schools in developing voter education materials, action planning, training and mentoring civic captains, and coordinating get-out-the-vote efforts. It was established in 2015 and works collaboratively with other national and local youth voting organizations.

The panel will also feature local leaders of Maine Youth for Climate Justice (MYCJ), a coalition of over 400 youth from all over Maine who fight for bold climate action, a just transition, and a livable future in Maine. Their goal is to amplify the voices of folks who have been historically excluded from narratives around the climate crisis, environmental activism, as well as the political conversation. MYCJ was founded in 2019 and its members include anyone under the age of 30 who is interested in engaging at the local or state level on issues related to climate justice.

Maine Youth Power, an organization founded in 2020 that works to increase youth voter turnout, may also participate. The organization works in communities around the state, centering rural and suburban youth voices by investing directly in young people and building campaigns around issues facing young people in Maine. The group turned out hundreds of youth voters during its first year and has set a goal of turning out 10,000 youth voters in Maine in November.

All Lincoln County Democrats and unenrolled progressives are welcome to attend the April 25 meeting. LCDC voting members will automatically receive the Zoom log on information and reminders by email. Those interested in becoming a voting member must be a registered Democrat in Lincoln County and may make their interest known by indicating so at the in-person meeting, on the meeting registration form, https://lincolncountydemocrats.com/meet, or by emailing info@lincolncountydemocrats.com.

Pre-registration for the meeting is required for non-voting members who want to receive Zoom log on and/or phone-in details. Register at https://lincolncountydemocrats.com/meet before noon the day of the meeting to ensure access. However, LCDC will do its best to accommodate last-minute registrations.
