JEFFERSON, Maine, Sept. 20, 2023 – Bev Uhlenhake, chair of the Maine Democratic Party, will deliver informal remarks during the Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) Harvest Dinner, Sunday, Oct. 1, at Le Barn in Jefferson.
“As leader of the Maine Dems, Bev has set the tone for the party statewide, focusing on the accomplishments of Democrats around the state and nation, advocating for equality for all at every level of our organization and standing firm against increasing attacks by white nationalists and those who seek to undermine our democracy,” said LCDC Chair Kelli Whitlock Burton. “We’re delighted that she’s joining us for an afternoon of good food and conversation at the Harvest Dinner.”
Uhlenhake is a longtime Democratic activist, having served previously as the party’s vice chair and as the chair of the Penobscot County Democrats. She served on the Brewer City Council, including two terms as mayor, and on the 2021 Apportionment Commission, and works in commercial real estate in the Bangor area.
“My dad was a factory worker and a farmer, so I was raised in a farming community with union values,” Uhlenhake stated when she was elected to the chair position in January of 2023. “He taught me at a young age that, as Democrats, we don’t leave people behind,” she continued. “We have a responsibility to make sure every American has the tools to succeed, regardless of their background. These are the values that have guided me my entire life, and they’re the same values that will guide me in this new role.”
In addition to Uhlenhake, Harvest Dinner attendees will have the opportunity to hear from and chat with Democratic legislators, including Sen. Cameron Reny (SD 13), Rep. Lydia Crafts (HD 46), and Rep. Holly Stover (HD 48).
For the second year in a row, the LCDC Harvest Dinner will take place at Le Barn event space, a restored gambrel-roofed barn at 132 Waldoboro Road in Jefferson. The simple bill of fare includes a selection of homemade soups and stews — with vegan options — bread, butter, locally-pressed apple cider, and a selection of pies accompanied by coffee in an informal, all-you-care-to-eat, family-style format.
The event is open to LCDC members and nonmembers, out-of-county visitors, and others who want to support the organization. Reservations for the meal are $25 per person. Guests who choose to make a reservation as a host for $50 will be recognized as a sponsor at the event. Children under 10 will eat free. Space is still available at the venue, but to ensure a seat, please make a reservation by visiting the secure registration website at https://lincolncountydemocrats.com/harvest. The deadline for reservations is Monday, Sept. 25.
For more information about the dinner, contact Valarie Johnson at 207-549-3358.
Funds raised at the event will be used to support LCDC’s local efforts in Lincoln County. The organization’s grassroots mission is to organize volunteers and communicate with voters in support of candidates who believe in the Democratic ideals and principles of government by, of, and for all the people.
