Lincoln County Democratic Committee’s Rally for Democracy draws a record crowd ahead of the November 5 election
DAMARISCOTTA, Maine, Oct. 28, 2024 (a version was released to the Newspapers combined with the Harvest Dinner recap) –On Saturday, Oct. 19, Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME1) and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows energized more than 200 at the Lincoln County Democratic Committee’s (LCDC) Rally for Democracy, held at the American Legion in Damariscotta.
Bellows urged the crowd to help maintain Maine’s top voter participation status from 2022, “Let’s turn out every single person that we know to vote. Let’s make Maine number one for voter participation in 2024!”
Pingree stressed the importance of electing Vice President Kamala Harris and Democrats up and down the ticket.
Bellows also emphasized that every citizen who is a resident of Maine has the right to vote without exception, early voting is available now at town and city halls, and same-day voter registration is permitted on election day with proof of identity and residency.
Other Democratic candidates and incumbents also appeared to connect with voters and discuss key issues.
The Rally for Democracy took on a festive tone as a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) party, open to all. Local favorites The Gulch performed live music, and families enjoyed a red, white, and blue bounce house, crafts, and games. Perch Café & Bakery of Waldoboro offered treats and hot beverages, while the American Legion ran a cash bar. A Maine makers market featured five artisans focused on upcycled goods, slow fashion and found art: Mozelle Fine Jewelry, Kharris B, Peace House Studio, selkie silhouettes, and Blue Earth Bags. Attendees also had opportunities to sign up for GOTV efforts and gather voter resources.
The LCDC Campaign Headquarters, located at 27 River Rd. in Newcastle, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer voter questions or accept volunteer help.
