WISCASSET, Maine, August 24, 2020 – The Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) has set its program for the Drive In for Democracy: A Rally for the People, to be hosted at the Wiscasset Speedway Sunday, Aug. 30 from 4 to 6:30 pm. Featuring Maine humorist Tim Sample as emcee, great live music by Buxton native Griffin Sherry of The Ghost of Paul Revere, Midcoast singer/songwriter Lauren Crosby, and Damariscotta-based Driving Charlie Home, along with the opportunity to hear Democratic candidates, the rally will deliver an opportunity for folks to safely come together to celebrate Democratic values.

Attendees will hear from our U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree (Congressional Dist. 1). Assistant Majority Leader State Sen. Eloise Vitelli (Dist. 23) along with State Reps. Holly Stover (Dist. 89) and Allison Hepler (Dist. 53), candidates for re-election. They will be joined by State House candidates Lydia Crafts (Dist. 90), Chris Hamilton (Dist. 88), and Tim Marks (Dist. 87), who will each make their case for sending positive Democratic values to Augusta in the fall.

Chloe Maxmin, currently the Maine State House Representative for Dist. 88, who is vying for the State Senate Dist.13 seat, will also attend and speak. Born and raised in Nobleboro, Maxmin sponsored legislation during her first term that came directly from her constituents–on issues ranging from workforce development around green energy to rural transportation access and more. She says, of her time in the legislature,

The work of politics is about electing good people who will listen to us, represent us, and listen to the will of the people. But it’s also more than that. It’s about what we can do together, what we can build in our community, the conversations that we have with respect, the ways that we can unite over what we have in common rather than what separates us.”

Audio messages from other Democratic candidates, including presidential nominee Vice President Joe Biden, have also been prepared for Lincoln County voters.

Other highlights will include a duet between Lauren Crosby and Griffin Sherry.

Sherry, who has spoken out about the importance of voting, will conclude his solo set with “The Ballad of the 20th of Maine,” the official Maine state ballad.

Riley Stevenson, a rising senior at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle is making waves across Maine as she champions environmental causes. Stevenson will speak to her concerns on the environment and talk about the youth movement. Jamie Dalgleish, a twenty-five-year-old political organizer from Waldoboro, will share thoughts on our current moment and the urgency of this election.

Mary Trescot, who hopes to continue representing District 3 as a County Commissioner, will announce the winners of a $150 gift card to the Newcastle Publick House and dinner at the historic Turner Barn on North Haven Island.

Event space is limited. Advance ticket purchase is required and can be made online until midnight, Saturday, Aug. 29, or until tickets are gone. Boxed meals must be pre-ordered and purchased before midnight, Thursday, Aug. 27. There will be no onsite concession sales, although attendees may bring outside food and non-alcoholic beverages.
