Essential Work Deserves Our Vote

To the editor:

While our planet experiences mortal human-caused threats, the U.S. seems mired in divisions over issues which, in the global context, ought to rank lower on our list of anxieties.

I’m thankful that we have writers like Paul Kando, who clarifies the complex connections between the local and the global in his columns.

I’m also thankful that our community still maintains a strong tradition of “we’re all in this together” regardless of party. If my house were on fire, the last thing on my mind would be the political affiliation of a volunteer fireman on his way to help me out.

And lastly I’m thankful for Lydia Crafts, who earned a perfect 100% score on the Maine Conservation Voters 2022 Environmental Scorecard, who has advocated for extended producer responsibility, limiting out-of-state waste at Juniper Ridge, banning spreading sludge on farmland, and investing in the Land for Maine’s Future to preserve working waterfronts. Lydia’s essential work in the Maine Legislature deserves our vote.
