02 Dec 2024 LCDC Food Pantry Partnership Wraps Up 2024
The month of November was the last Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) food pantry donation month for 2024. There will not be a LCDC meeting or event in December. So, this is a good time to give the final report for the 2024 food pantry project.
In October, LCDC members donated 179 pounds to the Jefferson Food Pantry. In November, members donated 242 pounds to the Ecumenical Food Pantry in Newcastle. Adding these amounts to the total collected from May to September, 984.13 pounds, we get a total of 1,405.13 pounds of items donated to Lincoln County food pantries in 2024. In 2023, the total from May to November was 528.5 pounds. This brings the total collected in these two years to 1,933.63 pounds. Now this is something to feel good about! Thank you to all who contributed items.
We’ll start collecting again when the organization starts meeting in January. First we’ll gather on Sunday, January 12, 2-3:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 527 Main St. in Damariscotta for a Volunteer Appreciation Social. The monthly hybrid meeting will be held on Thursday, January 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. for social time at the Newcastle Fire Station, 86 River Rd. Both of these events provide the opportunity to contribute to one of our Lincoln County food pantries. Watch this space for the January pantry name and their requested items list.
There are at least eight food pantries in Lincoln County: Alna, Boothbay, Jefferson, Newcastle, New Harbor, Waldoboro, Whitefield, and Wiscasset. In addition to the food pantries, some communities in Lincoln County have free food stands that stock nonperishable items that are available 24/7.
As LCDC continues its partnership with Healthy Lincoln County, we thank all who have provided assistance with food insecurity through their generous contributions. We look forward to the continued support of our members and friends for this worthy cause.
