Rain or Shine: Live music, cash bar, food trucks, rousing speakers, voter info, candidates, bounce house, and more

DAMARISCOTTA, Maine, Oct. 3, 2022 – The Lincoln County Democratic Committee (LCDC) is hosting a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) party called Rally for Democracy on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 4-7 p.m. at the American Legion in Damariscotta. Parking is available next door at the Central Lincoln County YMCA, at 525 Main St. Accessible spots at the Legion are reserved for those with special designation plates or placards.

Rain or shine, the party will feature live music, food trucks and vendors, a cash bar, and fun activities for adults and kids like rock painting, cornhole, and a bounce house.

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Food and drink will be sold directly by the individual vendors. The bar and some of the vendors will take cash only, so plan accordingly.

Food vendors include Brother Shucker, Perch Cafe & Bakery, and JJ’s Schooner Dogs. The Committee sought out a variety of local vendors that produce quality food at accessible prices. More may be added.

Zak and Hudson Kuras’s Damariscotta-based trailer, Brother Shucker, will be shucking a variety of Maine oysters as well as selling other seafood, burgers, and vegan options to attendees.

A women-owned and family-run business, the Perch Cafe & Bakery in Waldoboro plans to bring their customers’ favorite scratch-made sweet and savory treats, local mulled cider, and brewed coffee for sale at the Rally.

JJ’s Schooner Dogs cart is regularly set up at the Sail Power & Steam Museum in Rockland but will join the Rally to share some chili, cornbread, grilled red snapper hot dogs, and brats with homemade kraut and pickled red onions.

Local favorites 32 North will be the house band for the event. Between sets, others will take the stage to help the organization kickoff GOTV activities that build up to Election Day on Nov. 8. Attendees will have the opportunity to get voter registration information, meet candidates, and sign up for volunteer jobs to help Democratic candidates to victory.

As part of an ongoing effort for the organization, the LCDC is collecting the following wish list items for the Whitefield pantry throughout October: soup, cereal, toilet paper, and hygiene items like shampoo, dish or clothes detergent, and toothpaste. Donations may be brought to the event or dropped at the LCDC Campaign Headquarters at 3 Hall St. in Newcastle, just off of Academy Hill Rd. The office is generally open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon. Call 563-1099 to confirm.
