About Hannah Pingree
Hannah Pingree is a lifelong Mainer, leader, and mom who knows how to get things done. Born in Belfast and raised on the island of North Haven, she has led at every level, serving as Maine’s Speaker of the House, running a small business, chairing her local school board, and directing the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future (GOPIF).
Hannah’s father, a boat builder, served on the school board and volunteered as an EMT. Her mother’s tenure in the state legislature and in Congress gave Hannah a front row seat to what it means to serve
Elected to the Maine House at 26, Hannah went on to become the youngest woman in the nation and only the second woman in Maine history to serve as Speaker of the House. In the Legislature, she built a reputation for working across the aisle. She expanded broadband in rural Maine, invested in clean energy and energy efficiency, lowered health care costs, defended reproductive rights, passed marriage equality, improved housing access, and protected Maine’s working waterfronts. She also championed the Kid Safe Products Act, battling the chemical industry to protect children’s health.
After the Legislature, Hannah ran a small business, led a local housing organization, and chaired her local school board while raising her two kids. In 2019, Governor Mills asked her to lead GOPIF , where she tackled housing, workforce, and economic recovery, led the Children’s Cabinet and Cabinet on Aging, started an Office of New Americans, and Hannah’s leadership made Maine a national leader on climate action.
Platform Issues:
- Affordable and Accessible Health Care – Expand access, lower premiums, and a new public option.
- Affordable Housing – Increase supply of homes for working families and first-time buyers.
- Energy Costs – Hold utilities accountable to lower prices; tie profits to reliability, service, and affordability. Invest in efficiency and affordable clean energy, and a more resilient grid to lower costs.
- Protect Maine Homes and Hospitals – Stop private equity and out-of-state corporations from buying local homes, mobile home parks, or healthcare facilities.
- Property Tax Relief – Deliver relief for working families struggling with rising property costs.
- Immigration and Civil Rights – Use executive authority to keep ICE out of Maine and defend civil rights.
- Climate Action and Clean Energy – Lead Maine in climate solutions while protecting jobs and communities.
- Quality Education – Partner with communities and teachers to support quality education for our kids. Invest in reading and math programs that work, improving aging facilities, quality early care and mental health supports, technical education programs, and make free community college permanent.Â
- Economic Opportunity and Support for Working Families – Invest in rural economic development and innovation, affordable child care, and workforce development that allow workers to access good-paying careers.
Priorities in Office
- Lower out-of-pocket health care costs so families keep more of their paycheck and ensure quality care for all Mainers with more primary care access.
- Expand housing options so more Mainers can buy or rent without being priced out.
- Cut energy bills and fight climate change by expanding low-cost clean energy and holding utilities accountable for reliable, fair service.
