Our September meeting featured a legislative update by Sen. Cameron Reny and Reps. Holly Stover & Lydia Crafts and Lane Sturtevant, organizer with Democracy Maine, a statewide organization that consists of the League of Women Voters of Maine, Maine Citizens for Clean Elections, and Maine Students Vote, provided an overview of the four state constitutional amendments on the Nov. 7 ballot. Committee Business included a platform update, financial report and other announcements. Watch the video below. Note: the business portions of the meeting are not included in the video.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, October 26 (4th Thursday of the month), 6:30 PM, Hybrid (Newcastle Fire Station or Zoom) with speakers from the Maine Council on Aging. And the November meeting will be a week earlier and at a different location on Thursday, November 16, 6:30 PM, Hybrid (Damariscotta American Legion or Zoom) with Prof. Maurice Cunningham, who has authored a book on dark money in politics and written position papers for the NEA on how to defeat far-right extremist groups like Moms for Liberty at the polls.

Community Conversations discussion of Question 3 and Pine Tree Power at 6 PM on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the American Legion Hall, which will be moderated by the impartial Maine Public Advocate William Harwood and feature speakers from Pine Tree Power, which supports Question 3, and Maine Affordable Energy Coalition, which opposes the referendum.

The State of Maine requires political parties to hold municipal caucuses every even-numbered year. The Maine Democratic Party has set the 2024 caucuses for February 3-4,, between 8 AM and 8 PM. Locations and Times TBA
