Many reasons to celebrate on this Flag Day

Did you feel that?
A breath of optimism? A sense of the possibility for positive, progressive change?

Join me in taking a moment to celebrate the results of our efforts over the past 18 months — Lincoln County Democrats did not sit back and allow the pandemic to crush our dreams of a Maine that cares for all its people, has a clean vision for the future of its economy, and promotes even broader access to the ballot box. In Lincoln County and across Maine, we Democrats rolled up our collective sleeves, got to work, and sent a legislature to Augusta that is creating a sea-change in our state’s direction.

Our Democratically-led legislature, with influential local members Holly Stover, Lydia Crafts, Allison Hepler, Eloise Vitelli, and Chloe Maxmin, is moving forward on issues that are of importance to all Maine households:

  • Broadened medical/dental coverage and other support for those in need
  • Universal early-childhood education and food security for our children
  • Semi-open primary elections that encourage, not discourage, participation by all voters in the electoral process, as well as other measures that increase voter access
  • Increased attention to racial equity in legislation

And there’s so much more to come as the legislative session adjourns later this week!

Our Democratic District Attorney, Natasha Irving, and Sheriff Todd Brackett continue to work toward justice — not just jail time — for the people of the Midcoast.

Despite early pushback, our Democratic Governor, Janet Mills, persisted in her insistence that COVID-19 was an existential threat and has led Maine to one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. We can begin to feel comfortable about gathering with others who are vaccinated, traveling — beginning to have a social life again.

In short, Maine is on the move again.

And yet —Republicans in Maine and across the country continue to insist on the “Big Lie” of the 2020 “stolen” election, to work to protect privilege and wealth, and to plot to elect or re-elect candidates whose only goal is to tear down democracy.

Let’s all celebrate the fruits of our labor as we prepare for the future.

Thanks to your efforts to elect progressive, forward-thinking Democrats, the positive result is evident every day in Augusta. Please accept my sincere gratitude; we all deserve a summer of fun, friends, and family. I look forward to celebrating with all of you at the August 8th Lincoln County Democrats’ Lobster Bake. Onward!
Regards,

~Barb
