2022 Campaign In Pictures

A campaign that began in February with events to collect signatures needed to get our candidates on the ballot ended on Election Night with a party celebrating a big, blue wave in Lincoln County and around the state. The 2022 campaign was one for the record books…and photo albums. This 2022 Campaign in Pictures offers a look back over 10 months of forums, meetings, canvasses, workshops and parties. Find photos of the candidates and many of the more than 150 volunteers who made the campaign such a huge success below.

Early days of the campaign

Our campaign began in February with successful candidate signing events in Boothbay, Damariscotta, Somerville and Waldoboro and before we knew it, our candidates were on the ballot and had held official launch events, we hosted a forum for the Democratic candidates for Maine Senate District 13, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows spoke about the need to defend democracy and the Maine Democratic Party held its convention in Bangor.

Photos of the primary forum, Rep. Holly Stover’s kickoff party and the meeting with Secretary Bellows were taken by Bob Crink.

Meet and Greet with Gov. Mills

More than 120 people turned out to meet with Gov. Janet Mills at a meet-and-greet in Boothbay Harbor in early June, our first large campaign event of the year. Gov. Mills, who had spent the day talking with local business owners, nonprofit leaders, educators and others, spent an hour mingling with attendees before giving a rousing speech. It was the perfect way to start our summer campaign!

Summer Campaign

Soon after Gov. Mills’ visit, our candidates and volunteers participated in Lincoln County’s first PRIDE Walk during Pride Month; joined parades in Bath, Boothbay, Bristol, Palermo, Wiscasset and Waldoboro; hosted a summer party for Millennial and Gen Z voters; painted nearly 50 large, wood campaign signs; and attended an event held for Gov. Mills in Bristol.

Town Committees

A statewide effort to energize Democratic town committees was wildly successful in Lincoln County. Of the county’s 19 towns, 17 met and elected officers. The local committees held meetings with candidates, joined parades and events in their towns, participated in canvasses, helped place candidate signs, held campaign parties and wrote letters to the editor. Read about these activities and connect with local Democrats on our Municipal and Regional Committees page.

Lobster Bake

The 2022 Lobster Bake was memorable not just for the amazing food, music and speeches by our candidates, Senate President Troy Jackson and Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau, but also for an unexpected downpour. Torrential rains and fierce winds toppled some of the smaller tents but did nothing to douse the excitement of the day. Read more about the event here.

Fall Campaign

We kicked off our fall campaign with LCDC’s first Campaign Volunteer Appreciation Picnic in Newcastle, then turned our attention to canvassing, the return of the Harvest Dinner, candidate forums hosted by local news media, the gubernatorial debates and more canvassing!

Rally for Democracy: A Get Out The Vote Party

Our largest event of the year was the Rally for Democracy, held in Damariscotta in October. More than 200 people attended the event to hear from Gov. Janet Mills and U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, enjoy food from local vendors and hear music by 32 North. Read more about the event here.

Get Out The Vote and Election Day

After 10 months, it was finally time for Get Out The Vote (GOTV) – the big statewide push during the week before the election to turn out voters for Democratic candidates. Volunteers completed 174 canvassing shifts and knocked more than 5,000 doors in just six days, surpassing the goal set for Lincoln County by the state’s coordinated campaign. The result: huge wins on Election Day! Read our election recap here.
